Objective Permanence is an immersive sculpture installation, designed for the Eisenwunderwelt exhibit at MoBE Moving Artists in Berlin, Germany, meant to highlight the stories of disappearing culture, obsolete technology, and extinct animals. Each of the three themes has personal significance to each of the three primary artists on the design team: Lu Xu, Steve Coles, and Liz Helfer. The installation combines each artists’ interpretation of the exhibition theme, “Eisenwunderwelt.” Lu’s interest in architectural form informed the shape and scale of the installation. Steve’s interest in reliquaries established the ornate and decorative nature of the objects included in the installation. Liz’s interest in using digital technology broadened the scope of the installation to include an audio component. Special thanks to all of our contributors.
